Set along the Intracoastal Waterway near Masons Inlet in Wilmington, NC, Sound Haven is a pool designed to disappear into its setting. The name nods to the Nicholas Sparks films shot along this coastline, The Choice was filmed right down this waterway and through the inlet beyond the property.
Three mature live oaks stand between the pool and the water, and the design begins there. Rather than compete with the canopy, we kept the geometry quiet: a clean gunite rectangle with straight edge coping, sited so nothing interrupts the sightline from lawn to marsh to channel. Marmiro Afion Cloud carries through the coping and patio in a sandblasted finish, with a leathered 6x12 at the waterline, a soft grey-white that reads like weathered shell against the marsh grass. Inside, a Wet Edge Luna Quartz Madagascar finish gives the water a deep blue-green that shifts with the sky. A submerged spa sits flush with the surface, preserving the horizon line rather than breaking it, while lit bubblers on the sun shelf carry the space into the evening.
